Common Problems
Check your car for these commonly overlooked maintenance points. Having them taken care of will prolong the life of your vehicle and make it safer on the road.
- Worn brake parts: Don’t wait to replace your brakes until you have a problem. Waiting can cause more damage and in the end cost more for a complete overhaul.
- Worn windshield wiper blades: Don’t wait until it is raining to replace your wiper blades. Get new ones at the first signs of wear
- Burned-out lights: Do you see well at night? Can others see your vehicle? Don’t wait for a citation or accident to replace blown bulbs. Make sure that your headlights and signal lights are in proper working order.
- Clogged filters: Replacing your oil, air, fuel and other filters can prolong the life of your vehicle and improve performance.
- Worn spark plugs: Worn spark plugs can cause your engine to run rough and cause heightened emissions. Replacing them can greatly improve the performance of your engine.
- Corroded battery cables: Does your engine have problems turning over? It may be due to corroded battery cables. Have your battery system checked to avoid getting stuck with a car that won’t start.
- Glazed belts and rotten hoses: Slipping belts and rotten hoses can affect vehicle performance in many areas, from loss of horsepower to heating and cooling efficiency. They can also be a safety issue with the possibility of breaking or bursting leaving you stranded. Get your hoses and belts checked and replace them at the first signs of wear.
- Neglected cooling system: Just because your heater or air conditioner is working does not mean that it does not need to be checked. Frequent service of the heating and cooling systems can avoid problems further down the line with the radiator or heater core.
- Leaking shock absorbers: Have your shocks or struts checked for leaks and wear. Worn shocks can cause an uncomfortable ride as well as unnecessary wear on the tires.
- Damaged CV joint boots: CV joints provide the power to your wheels that allow the car to move. Boots protect these critical parts, so have them checked often for signs of wear and corrosion.
- Leaking muffler: A leaking muffler can be noisy and embarrassing, and can cause your car to fail an emissions test. Have your car put on a lift and the exhaust system checked for leaks.
- Worn tires: Worn tires are dangerous. Proper inflation, alignment and balance will extend tire life.
